Map and Travel Directions to Portmagee, just off the Ring of Kerry, County Kerry



First of all, Portmagee is in County Kerry, Ireland's most beautful county. Portmagee is the perfect base from which to explore the area's amazing scenery and character. We are just 10 miles (16 kilometres) off of the famous Ring of Kerry, which as you can see runs right around the Iveragh peninsula. Killarney, and its famed beauty are only just over an hour's drive away.

How to get to Portmagee, County Kerry.

Portmagee is easily reached by road, by rail (to Killarney) and by air to Shannon, Cork or Kerry Airport at Farranfore. There are flights every day from London and Dublin.

Where is the Moorings in Portmagee?

Portmagee is a very small village so we're hard to miss. But, just in case, drive past the parking area beside the bridge around the corner into the village's main street. Drive past the church on your left for about 50 yards, and you will see us on the left-hand side. Parking is available both in front of the Moorings on the right hand side, as you drive in, and in the parking space at the rear of the building.

Part of the reason for why it might take longer than you're used to is the endless parade of breathtaking scenery on the way here, particularly on the Ring of Kerry, and also the fact that Irish pubs are exceptionally magnetic to local and touist alike. Of course there aren't too many autobahnen here either. If you are planning on driving, remember, Ireland is about enjoying where you are, not rushing to be somewhere else, so ease off the accelerator and enjoy the journey.

Train Travel to Portmagee, County Kerry.

The Irish Rail site provides details of all train schedules in Ireland. Visitors travelling by train can generally alight at either Killarney or Tralee, both being equidistant from Portmagee, though, the Killarny stop is approximately a half hour before Tralee. From here, public transport options are limited to bus services, details of which are outlined below.

Public Bus Routes to Portmagee, County Kerry.

Public bus services in Ireland are provided by Bus Eireann. The nearest town the bus travels to and from is 10 miles away in Cahirciveen, which is served by two buses daily, Monday to Saturday, to and from Killarney, with a third service from Killarney to twice daily in the Summer. This additional service is only available from the 29th June to the 30th August, as of 2008, and also operates on Sundays.
