Reviews & Awards for the Moorings and Bridge Bar
Winner Tourist Pub of the Year, Licensing World Awards 2007
We were honoured to be nominated for this award and thrilled to win it on May 28th, 2007 having been a close second in 2006. The award, sponsored by Failte Ireland, the Irish Tourism body, recognises those pubs which have the highest commitment to providing tourists with a great Irish Pub experience. We'd like to thank our terrific staff whose hard-work, good humour and dedication to providing visitors with a fantastic welcome and service made us a unanimous choice amongst the award judges.
Overall Winner - 2006 Irish Pubs of Distinction Award & Finalist 2006 Tourist Pub of the Year Award

In November of 2005, we were delighted to become the national winner of the Irish Pub of Distinction Award for 2005. This award is based largely on nominations from visitors to pubs all over Ireland so we're especially grateful to the kind words of all of those who took the time and trouble to nominate us.
Award-Winning Bar Food

The experience, quality of service and attention to detail
that has made our Moorings restaurant such a favourite with
visitors and locals alike has been brought to bear on the
food we serve in our bar. We have made a conscious effort to
not compromise our commitment to great food.
With a busy fishing port outside our door, seafood features
strongly on the menu. Our commitment to great seafood was recognised when the Bridge Bar was made a member of the BIM Seafood
Circle Pub Lunch. An award which recognises the diversity
of our seafood menu, the knowledge of the waiting staff
and, of course, the skill of the preparation. There are currently only 20 members in Ireland so we're
naturally delighted to have had our efforts recognised in
this way.

We went into The Moorings and sat beside the fire. Two sea-food baskets -
one for Susie and one for Mary - crumbed sole and chips for Noelle and fresh grilled
mackerel for me were all just perfect. Not only was I warm and dry, but here was
mackerel just out of the sea and on my plate. The freshness and simple but expert preparation of these dishes was a delight. It even made our conversation stop briefly as we put our noses to the trough. Maybe you have to be outside the capital to get value like this but places like The Moorings can only help our tourism industry.

Besides the food, setting and comfort, it is the friendly family atmosphere that sets it apart as one of our most favourite places to stay in the country... If away from the crowds and off the beaten track, yet with all the comforts of fine hospitality are what you are looking for, then you could not do better than The Moorings. We will be back!

Customer Reviews
Staying at The Moorings is like holidaying in a fairy-tale; you are welcomed like old friend, with warmth and humour; and the accommodation is beaitifully furnished and comfortable. The food is superb, with its wonderfully fresh combinations of sea-and-country flavours. The bar was as cozy as home. I should also mention that it's one of the most beautfiul little harbours I've ever seen - and me a Cornishman living in Australia.
Dr. Jon Watts, 2005.
The food in the restaurant and bar is superb & the service is oustanding. The bar is full of local people, but visitors are made to feel just as welcome and at home. The music sessions are integral to the community & there's no feeling it's been put on just for tourists.
Sue Wookey, 2005.
The atmosphere is one of community. People you don't even know will start conversations. The food is great, the seating comfortable - a warm and pleasant place where everyone wants to spend an evening - Fantastic! The way I was treated as a local, & welcomed into everything that was happening - it was HOME!

However, we feel it's the personal service and attention
we give to our guests which you will remember most about
your stay. We have made fast friends with many of our guests
and they come back to us each year.
