Kerry Memories
A feathered five from fathoms deep
distils a shower of broken pearls
Burnished silver-blue fish
Breathless. Sunlit. Flop and curl

by Billy Goat
A lot is said of Kerry's capacity to inspire those who
visit it. Artists love the unique light of the area. Musicians
are inspired by the magnificent coastline and landscape.
Writers seem to spring up out of the very soil in Kerry,
with verbal dexterity and facility being particularly inventive
in this part of the country as evidenced by our colourful
and nuanced use of colloquiallisms.
This part of the site, we'd like to give over to you and
to your thoughts, impressions and memories of Kerry. If
it has inspired you in any way and if you'd like to share
that inspiration with others, we'd love if you chose this
particular stage.
What kind of inspiration?
While memories are often practical in nature, and any travel
or touring tips that you'd like to impart to others through
this site would be very much appreciated, if I'm being honest,
I would rather keep that kind of information out of this
particular part of the site and focus instead on maybe just
that one magical moment in your holiday when something happened
that took your breath away, or made you laugh out loud,
or prompted you to take up a pen or a brush or tin whistle.
A moment when Kerry moved you in a way that was extra-ordinary
in the true sense of the word.
If you have a photograph, or a painting that captures a
moment, and are happy to show it to the rest of the world
then please send it on or we can link to your own site if
you have one. Michael Herrman's brilliant photos of the
'Old Year' custom are a perfect
example. Similarly stories of any kind, be they humourous,
sad, bizarre - as is often the case in Kerry - are very
much appreciated.
I really don't know what I'm trying to achieve by this
but I'm curious to see how people have been touched by their
time in Kerry. I don't believe you can spend time here and
not be coloured in some way by the strange quality this
place possesses.
By a curious twist of events, we received a poem about
Portmagee from a person identifying themselves only as Billy
Goat a number of months ago while I was redesigning this
site. We don't know who he is but we liked the poem. He
sent a second one, both of which are available
to view here.
I don't know whether anyone else will feel the need to
contribute, but I would certainly be happy to see a story
or poem or photo in my inbox from time to time. If you're
interested, mail
me directly or you can use the feedback
form.
Thanks,
Vincent
